Go away!
Still not sure what to do with this site, as there are so many committed and intelligent voices out there already (alongside the cranks, I mean). Have a hot dog on me — Hofmann franks/coneys (made in Syracuse!) are the best, and Silver Springs Beer 'n Brat (horseradish) mustard is delish (now find a good bun!) — and if you're curious about what I've been up to of late, see links at my ISU site to Chris Pusateri's interview with me at Jacket and a new review of Industrial Poetics by Susanne Hall at PMC.
My SUNY memoir is due out in a couple of months too -- started working on that project twelve years ago last March -- so aside from my continuing frustration with Blue Dog Democrats and right-wing blowhards and the like, things are pretty good at the moment. Kass will be in Boulder through January (on sabbatical, her first), so we'll be apart for a few months. But that'll likely mean that another book or screenplay or two will get written. If you know what I mean...

Joe,
This is your cousin Kathy Socha McNall. I just picked up a book yesterday at the local library and started to read Once an Engineer. I thought it sounded too coincidental that a kid from the 50's named Joe Amato with a brother Mike wrote the book, but when I read your mother was French I was stunned!!! I remember when I baby sat you and Mikey!!!!!! And my father, Uncle Fritz wanted me to name my youngest son Rosario, after your Grandfather!!!!! I am just really shocked and surprised to find out you're a writer!!! I'm a reader! Seriously, I am also a History teacher, one-time chef and one-time computer -programmer / analyst for Syracuse University. I have been married 33years and live in Westvale, near my parents old house. I have 3 kids, one is a chemistry teacher, one is in business and the youngest is studying to be a chef!!!! JoEY Amato, wow. I can't wait to read the rest of your book. I would also love to hear from you to know what you and your brother are s doing now. I just called my brother Al, and he, too, was surprised. I'm glad your life turned out so well. I can't wait to read the rest of your book......books!!! Your cousin, Kathy
